Back Up Champion – Irwin Mitchell Serious Injury Team

This month’s Back Up champion is a team of loyal supporters – the Irwin Mitchell Serious Injury team in Birmingham. The Serious Injury team are specialists in personal injury and medical negligence claims. Their specialisation means they know a lot about Back Up’s work.
Despite the Serious Injury team being very familiar with Back Up, there are many working in other teams at the company that have not previously come across the charity. The Serious Injury team saw this as an opportunity to raise the profile of Back Up. They decided to nominate us to receive the proceeds of the office “dress down days”. One Friday each month, staff donate between £1 and £5 to dress casually. Nikki, an associate solicitor at the company, said this about the day:
“It was lovely to receive feedback from colleagues across the departments who were really interested to learn about Back Up and understand how their donation would help.”
Irwin Mitchell supports Back Up’s Wheelchair Skills Extra courses across the UK. The Birmingham Office closely works with us during sessions held at the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries in Oswestry. Plenty of employees have had the chance to volunteer with Back Up and help out with wheelchair skills training. Everyone who has volunteered at the sessions has had a great afternoon, and returned to the office raving about Back Up!
This year, they have decided to ditch regular Secret Santa gift giving. The team combined the money they would have spent to buy Back Up gift cards to donate.
“I really hope that as an office we can continue to support Back Up for many years to come.”
