Why support us
A spinal cord injury is devastating. In a split second, you lose your independence, your freedom and perhaps your reason for staying alive. The suicide rate among people with spinal cord injury is six times the national average. Back Up is there through the darkest hours to show people that there is a positive future after paralysis. Because we’ve been there, we understand and we’re here to help.
We rely on the expertise of over 400 volunteers to deliver our services each year and receive no government funding, so your time and money means so much to us.
Every year, we help over 800 people to rebuild their lives – with independent living skills training, expert telephone support and residential activity courses to promote self-confidence and independence. To them, we are a lifeline.
But we cannot reach everyone. With your help, we could.
