Skills for Independence

“I feel so positive it’s ridiculous. On the way there I had no confidence, I was thinking to myself, I can’t do it. I had no self-esteem. It was honestly amazing.”

Course date

  • Coventry, Friday 29 September – Tuesday 3 October, 2017

This course is all about you and the skills that would improve your independence. What do you want to learn? The aim of this course is to give you the confidence you need to lead a more independent and active life.

There will be a dedicated skills trainer per two participants who will be a similar level and ability to you. They will work out with you what you want to achieve before the course, and give you some new ideas that you may not have thought of before.

Over the weekend, we will help you refine those skills whether it’s having a bath, using public transport, getting dressed, transferring into a car, going up and down curbs or any other specific skill you want to improve.

The course takes place at Hereward College in Coventry. This purpose built centre has fully accessible rooms, bathrooms, dining areas and lounges.

”Before the course I wouldn’t even go out and now I’ve got more confidence. I’m actually getting out more now, do things like going shopping and going to the football. The course was fun, educational and worthwhile.”
