Timeline of Back Up’s services

In 1986, Back Up offered one skiing course for people with a spinal cord injury. Today, we offer a diverse range of services for everyone affected by spinal cord injury, including: wheelchair skills training, courses, mentoring, family support, dedicated children and young people’s services, and support with returning to work or education.

The timeline below charts the development of Back Up’s services and the key milestones in our history.

Looking to the Future

Limitless Ambition to Transform Lives, our 2025-2030 strategy, sets out our vision to ensure everyone affected by spinal cord injury can reach their full potential.

Building on the progress of Transforming Lives (2021-2025), we’re expanding our reach, enhancing our support, and breaking down barriers to make sure everyone affected by spinal cord injury has the opportunity to thrive – no matter their age, background, injury level, or any other factor.

Our strategy will help us to achieve our vision and guide everything we do today, tomorrow, and to 2030.
