The London Marathon is truly an achievement of a lifetime. One of the world’s most famous marathons, it is also the largest annual fundraising event on the planet – runners have raised over £750 million for good causes since the race began in 1981.
Official ballot and own place runners
The ballot is open from Friday, 24 April 2026, and closes on Friday, 1 May 2026.
We strongly encourage everyone to also apply for the London Marathon public ballot to increase your chances of securing a place. If you’re successful, you can still run for Back Up and receive all the same support and benefits. Just email our events team if you’d like to find out more
