Celebrating 40 Years of Back Up

In 2026, Back Up turns 40, an incredible milestone for our charity. It’s a time to look back at where we started, recognise the people who’ve shaped our journey, celebrate the impact we’ve had and share our ambitions for the years ahead.

What started as a simple belief in what’s possible after injury has evolved into a nationwide movement supporting thousands of individuals and their families every year across an ever-growing range of platforms and services.

Everything we do today is driven by Back Up’s original vision: a world where everyone with a spinal cord injury can fulfil their potential.

Join the celebrations

Throughout 2026, we’ll be reflecting on our story and the people who made Back Up what it is today – our founders, volunteers, supporters, and staff who’ve helped so many rediscover confidence and independence.

We’ll also be celebrating the incredible diversity of our community today, from families and young people to those who’ve been part of Back Up for decades. And as the year builds towards our 40th Birthday Ball, we’ll look ahead with optimism and ambition, sharing our plans to reach even more people and create lasting change for the future.
