About us:

A spinal cord injury changes your life forever.

Every two hours, someone in the UK faces this trauma—it can happen to anyone, at any age, often in an instant. Every injury is unique, bringing physical, psychological, and social challenges, both visible and hidden, that affect you and your loved ones. But with the right support, life can be fun, and full of purpose and meaning.

At Back Up, we often meet people at their most vulnerable, working together to rebuild confidence, restore self-belief, and foster optimism and hope. Many of our staff and volunteers live with spinal cord injury—we know what it’s like, and we also know that extraordinary things are achievable.

Through peer-to-peer support, we encourage people to reach their goals, explore new avenues and

rediscover activities they love. We’re also here for families as they adjust to emotional and practical changes.

We are partners in possibility, empowering everyone affected by spinal cord injury to live life to the full.

How to apply:

  • Please Note:We currently review application only through Charity Jobs ATS. Please apply through Charity jobs as we will not be accepting offline applications.
  • Charity Jobs will ask you for a CV & Cover Letter (saying why you want the job and explaining how you meet the criteria in the job description. This statement is crucial; CVs alone will not be accepted).
  • Please complete equal opportunities form on charity Jobs. This form will be kept separate from your application and not viewed by the recruiting manager. It is used to help us assess the diversity of our applicants to ensure our processes are fair to all. It is optional to fill in, but it will help us improve and maintain high standards.

We will acknowledge receipt of your application and then let you know if you are to be invited to interview.

What will the process involve?

The process will involve at least two interview rounds which will be either in person or online. There will be a panel interviewing you and you may be asked to complete a task beforehand to present to the panel. If you need any support or adjustment to the recruitment process at any stage, do please ask and we’d be pleased to work with you to put these in place so that you can perform to the best of your abilities throughout the process and demonstrate your suitability for the role. Please email recruitment@backuptrust.org.uk
