Our life changing courses are back for 2022!

Group of 10 course participants together in the sunshine

Wanting to boost your confidence and independence after a spinal cord injury? Well, our life-changing courses are back for 2022.

We’re thrilled to announce our favourite courses are back for 2022. And there’s something for everyone. If you’re wanting a confidence boost, the chance to meet others with a spinal cord injury and improve your practical skills – look no further.

The aim of our courses is to increase both confidence and independence, for those affected by spinal cord injury, in a supportive environment.

What makes our courses so impactful is that they’re led by people who have a spinal cord injury themselves. This means participants can learn from others who have been there and can understand the challenges.

This is what Michael, one our participants, had to say about our Multi Activity course:

“I am 100% positive about the course – I tell everyone about it! I felt like a schoolboy again! None of us were the same, some could walk, but everybody did everything, we were all buzzing after the first day when we all got to the top of Latrigg Fell. After that everyone gave everything a go. It was an absolutely amazing experience.”

Here’s a quick look at what courses we offer to help you adjust to life with a spinal cord injury:

Our Multi Activity courses aim to challenge your perception of what’s possible through life-affirming indoor and outdoor activities. From rock and rope activities, such as abseiling, to water activities such as kayaking, we’ll be there to support you.

Our City Skills course focuses on challenging yourself and improving your everyday skills whilst exploring a new city. You’ll gain confidence and experience using public transport, learn negotiating different terrains and visit local attractions.

For those able to walk, with or without aids, our Next Steps course aims to improve your independence. Over a long weekend, we’ll cover essential life skills such as using public transport, cooking and navigating a busy city.

If you’re 18-25 and thinking about moving away from home, living independently and want to develop life skills, our Moving Forwards course is for you. You’ll have the opportunity to develop important skills like transfers, accessing public transport and cooking, and more.

There’s also a different courses aimed at children and young people with a spinal cord injury. Our Under 13s Multi Activity course, and our 13-17s Multi Activity course means you get to meet others, who’ve been through similar experiences and have a lot of fun.

And, of course, we’re running our first fully virtual course, What Next?, which aims to bridge the gap between leaving hospital and returning home.

Safety is our top priority on all our courses. We’ll be adhering to government guidelines, and we also have our own Covid safety policies, which will account for the needs of people with a spinal cord injury. We will be keeping a close eye on any Covid developments so please be aware that this information may change.
