Abigail’s August Update

An update from our CEO, Abigail Lock

In April, we launched Limitless Ambition, our 2030 Strategy. At its heart were the views of people affected by spinal cord injury.

We spoke to 500 people affected by spinal cord injury and asked: “What do you want to see from Back Up? What can we do better?”

You told us:

  • Be there for everyone affected by spinal cord injury – not just those who already know about us
  • Grow digital – meeting you where you are, when you need us
  • Regional services – support closer to you
  • Joining forces – working with other organisations to multiply our impact
  • Better communication – clearer, more accessible information

All while keeping that spark, energy and determination that makes Back Up special – what we call the Back Up Bug.

What’s Changing?

Your feedback is already inspiring our teams to think bigger and bolder. Over the coming months, you’ll start to notice changes in how we look and communicate. We are careful about how we spend donor’s money – so these changes won’t happen overnight but will roll out gradually as we refresh materials and update our digital presence.

Let us know what you think about our new look.

You will also see Back Up deliver in more places around the UK, including our new City Skills courses in Cardiff and Manchester, and some very exciting new developments in our digital services…

I can’t wait to see where we are by 2030!

P.S.have you seen we are expanding our ‘Family Support Team’? My dad had MS so I know first-hand the impact disability can have on the wider family. Check out our existing vacancies here.
