The Helvellyn Push

9-11th July 2010 - Congratulations to all who took part!

Jo Wilding and 'The Helvellyn Push because…just because’ team

A big well done and thank you to all who took part in this year’s challenging Helvellyn Push.

Whilst a lot of the UK baked in glorious sunshine, we really experienced the worst weather the Lake District had to offer! Despite the fact the gale force winds, torrential rain and hill fog prevented us from taking the path up to the summit, the alternative lower level route to the Red Tarn was incredibly challenging and in fact had far rougher terrain. There was one point along the route which involved crossing a fast flowing river and some areas were only just wide enough for a wheelchair to pass.

Everyone who took part did fantastically well and despite the weather there were still lots of smiles, laughter and determination which were clearly visible throughout the day.

Well done to all who raised so much sponsorship for this event. The current total is over £33,000 and rising on a daily basis!

Awards

At the post-push party we celebrated everyone’s successes that day in true Back-Up style with a hearty hog roast, DJ, dancing and plenty of beers.

A highlight of the evening was our awards presentation. Receiving the award for Top Fundraising Team was Andy Walker and his team ‘Teamwork makes the dreamwork’ raising over a phenomenal £7,000 (and still rising!)

The award for Fastest Team was Kev Scott and his team ‘Scotties Wheelers’ who completed the route in a time of 2hrs 51.

The Spirit of the Push trophy was awarded to Matt Duffy and his team ‘Mooch’s Mountain Muppets’.

All real deserved winners.

The Snowdon Push 2009

On Saturday 4th July, 13 teams took on Back-Up’s ultimate challenge and successfully reached the summit of Mount Snowdon – the highest mountain in England and Wales!

Extreme weather conditions made this the most challenging Push to date so a massive congratulations to all the teams who took part, it was a truly incredible achievement!

Well done to all the teams who took part in the Push it has raised a fantastic £42,000 profit, so thank you.

Awards

The fastest team on the day, who raced up and down Mount Snowdon in a time of 3hrs 18 minutes, was Team Trolley.  Well done to Andy Trollope and his mad team!

The award for the Spirit of the Push was simply too hard a decision this year – there was a team dressed as monkeys selling bananas on the mountain, a team kitted out in army gear and singing, another team in 70s ‘Fame’ attire but all 13 teams had an overwhelming determination, which is why the award this year is presented to every single person who took part.

Jo Wilding & This is just a Snowdon Push team, this is an M&S Snowdon Push team won the award for best Fundraisers prior to the event for raising an incredible £6,000!

Feedback from the weekend:

Andy Adamson (T3,) who took part in the Snowdon Push for first time this year, said:

“It was a great day and overcoming the appalling conditions as well as the mountain made it even more satisfying.

Successfully scaling Snowdon with my team has inspired me to carry on pushing my boundaries even further.”

Andy Griffin, a member of Team AA, wrote a thank you to his sponsors following the event, with a personal account of the day and what he gained from the experience. He said:

“It was sheer guts and determination from the team but with the help of jelly babies and lots of encouragement from others climbing Snowdon that day, we did it!”
