Our BBC Radio 4 Charity Appeal
We are thrilled to have featured on the BBC Radio 4 charity Appeal. You can listen in to our appeal which was originally broadcast on Sunday 28 October at 7.54am and 9.25pm.
In our Radio 4 appeal, you’ll hear how John was really struggling to come to terms with life after spinal cord injury. Now he was a wheelchair user, just leaving the house was a huge challenge. Blocked kerbs, uneven pavements and narrow doorways that had escaped John’s notice before his injury, were now insurmountable barriers.
John had amazing support from family and friends but going on one of Back Up’s life skills courses was a real turning point for him. He was able to learn from other people in a similar situation who could understand what he was going through. John shared experiences, learnt new wheelchair skills, and tried activities he never imagined he’d be able to do again like kayaking and horse riding. It totally changed his perception of what his life could be like.
Charley Boorman was inspired to speak on our behalf after he met John at one of our charity events. Charley will be presenting our appeal and asking for donations to support our life skills courses for people with a spinal cord injury. Please tune in and encourage your friends and family to do likewise on Sunday 28 October at 7.54am and 9.25pm. You can also catch our charity appeal online afterwards.
By donating today, we’ll be able to help more people like John adjust to life with a spinal cord injury and get the most out of life.
