The Big Lottery Fund boosts mentoring

Young mentors
We are thrilled to announce that The Big Lottery Fund has chosen to award us with a grant of over £450,000 which will help us to significantly grow our mentoring services.

Back Up is the only charity in the UK to offer peer-led mentoring for people with spinal cord injury and their families. Our service is accredited by the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation, and  connects individuals affected by spinal cord injury with a trained volunteer mentor who has had similar life experiences.

We first introduced our peer mentoring servicein 2005, and in that year we supported eight adults with spinal cord injury. Since then the service has grown hugely, and last year we supported over 80 individuals, including: adults, young people under the age of 18, and parents and partners of people affected by spinal cord injury.

With the support of The Big Lottery Fund, over the next four years, we will support more than 310 people affected by spinal cord injury living in England. The grant will also allow us to expand our service to support siblings of young people affected by spinal cord injury.

We would like to say a big thank you to The Big Lottery Fund for recognising the need for our vital mentoring services, and for enabling us to reach even more people affected by spinal cord injury.

We offer mentoring services for anyone living in the UK who is affected by spinal cord injury. If you would like to know more about our mentoring services please have a look at our mentoring webpage, or contact the mentoring team on 020 8875 6728.
