On the 24th May 2012 a team of spinal cord injured and able-bodied cyclists took on the 3 day Devon Coast to Coast bike ride, in support of Back Up. The route started at Ilfracombe and finished at Plymouth, and is approximately 103 miles long. The team are aiming to raise vital funds to help Back Up continue to provide rehabilitative courses, mentoring and wheelchair skills and under 18's services.
The team included many inspirational individuals, such as Paralympian and keen handcyclist Jane Sowerby. In 2003 Jane tripped and fell 13ft down a stairwell onto the concrete below. The fall broke Jane’s back and left her paralysed from the waist down. It took her some time to adjust both physically and emotionally to living with her injury, but 9 years later, Jane has transformed her life with the help of Back Up. After attending a rehabilitative ski course in Colorado where she discovered her passion and a talent for skiing. She has since built a career as a professional skier and Paralympian.
