Wheelchair users race up Mount Snowdon

On Saturday 9th July, nearly 300 people gathered in Bangor in anticipation of conquering the highest mountain in England & Wales, Mount Snowdon for charity.  16 teams of between 10 and 15 people took part, with one member of each team a spinal cord injured wheelchair user.

The wheelchairs were pulled and pushed up the mountain using ropes and many had been specially adapted for the challenge. For some the aim was to complete the event in the quickest time possible. For others it was more about overcoming personal challenges, however long it took.  Taking part this year were a host of corporate partners, Back Up staff and individual teams who were all raising money for Back Up!

When you have been told you will never walk again, reaching the top of the highest mountain in England and Wales seems like a hopeless dream. The work of Back Up just demonstrates that life doesn’t stop if you’re paralysed.
