Youth Multi-Activity Weeks

The youth multi activity weeks are very enjoyable courses for groups of 7 spinally injured participants and 5 buddies, between the ages of 13 – 17, and are held in Keswick, Kielder or Exmoor.  This is a great place to start your Back-Up experience.

Every day offers something new and a chance to try a great range of activities, such as sailing, canoeing, blokarting, abseiling, and camping.  There is also some wheelchair skills training, to help you brush up on everyday tasks like going up and down kerbs and slopes etc.  You don’t need any prior experience and you don’t need to be outdoorsy or sporty.  You just need to be willing to give things a go.  An adult support group, including leaders and carers, accompanies the course.

“Although you get to do loads of activities, the best thing is you get to learn loads of skills including things you can’t learn in hospital. These new skills have helped me to be more active and independent. It has basically put me in a position to be able to be in control and get on with my life the way I want to.”  Jon, C7, aged 16

We also have short multi activity courses for children aged 8 – 12, each bringing a parent or carer.  These courses are scheduled during half terms, and are fantastic fun and a learning opportunity for everyone.  They offer similar activities as the course for teenagers (see above) and we make sure that everyone’s included – Mums and Dads too!  We have a nurse on hand at each course, and 2 experienced Group Leaders.
