The Back-Up Trust Youth Programme

Tommy, aged 14, down in Exmoor

Back-Up isn’t just for adults!

We also run an extensive programme of services and courses for teenagers and children with spinal cord injury. Back-Up offers a range of ways for you to meet, chat or just share your experiences with other people that can relate to your experiences/

We are well aware that if you are under the age of 18, you may have been the youngest person in your spinal centre by some way.  You might not even know anyone else your age with spinal cord injury.  We can change this!

"I had a better time than I imagined. Highlights of the course were kayaking and making new mates. I would definitely do it all again."Mark, 17, injured 2003

For further information regarding the youth programme, please contact . A good way to find out more is to register with us on-line or make a call and speak to Stuart, Mel ot Eric in the office on020 8875 1805.

"I think I am more independent as a result of going on the course and that will help me, possibly as far ahead as leaving home! I used to worry about how I would manage that, but I feel more secure in my own abilities now. I feel more confident and I am better able to assertively explain my needs and limitations." Clare, 15, injured 1990

And ... a bonus!

For anyone aged 16+, spinally injured or not you can use either a multi activity or a ski week as part of your residential component of your Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Please note, our D of E places for Teen Buddies Summer 2009 have now been filled. We are still accepting applications for the Youth Weekend in Exmoor, however this does not meet the criteria for the residential component of your D of E.  Watch this space for winter 2010 dates – coming soon!
