Summer Sailing Courses

Sailing

August 30th - Sept 6th, Keswick

Sailing has had much increased coverage since our success at the last Olympics. Back-Up run 2 courses, both cater exceptionally well for those with high level injuries.

Rutland Water – 1 Day

This one day course is designed to encourage those thinking about sailing to go along and have a look and a go. The centre is fully accessible and is not too far from the M6.

The Calvert Trust, Keswick – 7 days

This week long course held at the Keswick Calvert Trust Centre is suitable for both beginners and those who already have some sailing experience. It is a structured course that allows participants to work towards their level 1 or 2 Royal Yachting Association qualifications, allowing you to continue sailing independently anywhere. The course has great facilities and equipment allowing those with higher levels of paralysis an opportunity to sail with real independence, but in a safe environment. The course is run for seven days Saturday to Saturday.

”It was fantastic. By the second day, I was sailing a Challenger by myself, with no one else on-board. Thanks to a clever piece of equipment our instructor had devised, I had enough strength to turn the tiller and steer the boat. The feeling of being out on the lake by myself and in complete control was amazing. The sun was out and the views breathtaking.” SCI Participant
