Andy Walker, was successfully cast as a high level tetraplegic in Emmerdale at the end of last year and since then, has been involved with some very difficult storylines. Andy wanted to use the opportunity to play a character with an outlook on life similar to his own; showing how you can live positively with a spinal cord injury, in contrast to his co-star Jackson who found it difficult to adjust to life after being spinally injured in a car accident, with tragic consequences.
He was interviewed by Philip Schofield and Jenni Falconer on This Morning, prompting fantastic interest in Andy's forthcoming Snowdon event and Back Up.
Andy, injured since 2006, says: “It was a privilege to be asked to play the part of Steve Kelly and it is a fantastic opportunity to raise the profile of living positively with a spinal cord injury. Back Up inspires people to change their outlook, offering a wide range of courses and services to help them regain their confidence and build self esteem. Life doesn’t have to change with a SCI, the only difference when going to football matches now, is that I take my own chair.”
