The Back-Up Trust has a number of official
Corporate Partners who contribute to the work of the charity in different ways. These include;
* Sending staff on a Back-Up course - Corporate Buddies - see below;
* Sponsoring one of our Services
* Attending one of our Black Tie dinners
* Entering a team in a fundraising Challenge Event
* Sponsoring a Fundraising Event
* Employee volunteering
* Having an Office Wheelchair Skills Day.
* Your own idea!
There is no such thing as a "standard" partnership with Back-Up - we aim to meet the individual needs of your business whilst benefiting people with spinal cord injury at the same time, and we always like to hear new suggestions!
The support of F&C's 2010 charity of the year partnership ensures that Back-Up can continue its vital work transforming the lives of people with spinal cord injury. Since the start of the partnership in January, F&C have raised the phenomenal sum of £48,687! Their fantastic and generous donation will ensure that The Back-Up Trust can support more people. To give you an idea of what this sort of money means to us...
£20,000 could cover the cost of Back-Up’s Edinburgh based City Challenge course for adults with spinal cord injury. Can you imagine getting around steep hills, cobbled streets and kerbs, old buildings with steps, buses and trains in a wheelchair? No? Neither can most people – including those who have a spinal cord injury. Our volunteer group leaders and wheelchair skills trainers, who all have a spinal cord injury themselves, help participants to overcome their fears and learn invaluable new skills while getting around one of the most beautiful, but least accessible, cities in the UK. Suddenly the everyday challenges of visiting friends and family, taking the kids to school, going to work or on holiday can be seen in a whole new light. Janice, who took part in the City Challenge said:
“After an amazing week as I headed for home I realised I had two options for my future. I could go home to a life of being bitter and resentful or I could get “back up” to the place I was once at. The latter being the one I took.”
Janice, aged 40
A Back-Up course offers a unique development opportunity for your staff, whether they have any prior experience of spinal cord injury or not. As a Back-Up Corporate Buddy your company would pay for you to attend a week's Back-Up course giving you the chance to test all of the competencies required for your job in a new, challenging environment.
What previous Corporate Buddies have had to say;
"Back-Up made me more confident in communicating with people I don’t know, more confident in myself and in my abilities."
Gary, RBS Buddy 2007
“My experience was not about just getting to know people but getting to understand them”
Hesther, Waitrose Buddy 2008
“The self leaning that happened for me in the course enabled me when arriving back in branch to look deeper in to why I managed in a certain way.”
Giles, Waitrose Buddy 2008
"I expected to be working as a team, to have fun, and most of all I expected to be inspired ... and I wasn't disappointed.”
Gareth, RBS Buddy, 2008
Sending employees on a Back-Up course offers a learning opportunity that is hard to find in corporate training; one that has a deep, lasting impact on a person's performance, makes a huge contribution to charity, and is fun as well!
