Lake District Calvert Trust: Working with us since 1989

Every month of our anniversary year, we will turn the spotlight on one of our service providers to recognise their support. This month, we want to thank Lake District Calvert Trust, a residential outdoor centre with over 35 years of experience delivering outdoor activities for people with disabilities.

In 1989, we ran our first multi activity course with Lake District Calvert Trust. Since then, they have hosted over 70 courses, supporting more than 400 people affected by spinal cord injury.

Some of the outdoor activities include indoor climbing, abseiling, kayaking, hand cycling and horse riding. They go above and beyond to make sure these activities are fully accessible.

Multi activity courses have been a key part of Back Up and we could not run these courses without Calvert’s expertise, knowledge and inclusive attitude. Sharing our ethos, they believe that people should be able to live the lives they want, regardless of their disabilities.

“I will take away from the weekend to be more confident in what I’m doing and to not give up. I enjoyed being more independent.”

Calvert Trust thinks that their partnership with Back Up has enabled them to gain knowledge and experience about spinal cord injury.

“So many times we have been amazed at the abilities of course participants, changing our expectations of what is possible as we continue striving to improve and provide the best possible experience for all our Back Up groups.”
John Ford, Activities Manager at Calvert Trust

Their team includes instructors, bookings team, accommodation staff and other people who work behind the scenes. Together, they make sure our courses are life changing experiences for everyone involved.

We can't thank them enough for their support and kindness.
