Our City Dinner fundraising event | May 4 2017

Back Up’s City Dinner, held on Thursday 4th May 2017, was another successful evening for the charity. A phenomenal amount of money was raised alongside a wonderful night of entertainment.

The event, held in Merchant Taylors’ Hall, opened with an opera performance supported by the venue’s 18th century organ.  The evening featured an auction, hosted by Christie’s auctioneer David Elswood, and was closed by singing from Soccer Aid creator Jonny Wilkes.

There were famous names in attendance to show their support for Back Up. This included Rugby Union World Cup winner Ben Cohen, Strictly Come Dancing star Kristina Rihanoff and two-time Olympic Gold medallist rower Alex Gregory. Eric Lanlard, celebrity pâtissier and Back Up City Dinner committee member, also attended.

James Green spoke at the event about how Back Up supported his daughter Jemima who sustained a spinal cord injury in May 2015. James said, “Back Up helped us as a family in those early days to see hope. I am so very proud of Jemima – she has always been full of determination and she challenges anyone that says she is unable to do things.”

We are also very excited to announce that our next Back Up City Dinner will take place May 3 2018 at the Merchant Taylors' Hall.
