Telephone support service

It’s good to talk.

Back Up offers a regular telephone contact service which is available to anyone with a spinal cord injury. Our Outreach and Support Team – Mel, Michael and Stuart plus a team of volunteers – regularly visit each of the 11 spinal cord injury centres around the UK to meet patients, lead wheelchair skills training and patient education sessions.

You will have the opportunity to give us your contact details at these sessions and one of the team will stay in touch on a regular basis which could be once a month or just a couple of calls through the year, depending on your preferences.  This service offers support and a sympathetic ear during the often challenging transition from hospital back to home and beyond.

“Talking to the people at Back Up has been pretty inspirational, they have not only shown me the amazing things you can still do in a wheelchair, they have really made me feel a part of something really important, helped open my mind and made me feel incredibly welcome.”

All of the team are spinal cord injured and can share their experiences on any subject such as travel, driving, bladder management, work or leisure. They can also tell you more about Back Up’s mentoring service and our range of courses and can direct you to other organisations or resources which may help.

Email the team or call today on 020 8875 1805.

Back Up's regular telephone contact service is supported by the Big Lottery Fund.
